The Heckscher Museum of Art offers a variety of museum exhibition-related, art historical, and thematic presentations. Programs are offered on select days, at the Museum or off-site. Please call 631.351.3214 for more information.
Presentations include the following:
Looking at Art: An Introduction
Art belongs to everyone. It stirs up something in each of us in a very personal way. Each of us responds differently depending on our past experiences and backgrounds. It means something different to each of us, because we come to it with different backgrounds and experiences. Begin to explore the world of art and art museums in this introductory program. Perfect for beginners of all ages.
Identity Crisis: Authenticity, Attribution and Appropriation
This bold and colorful presentation explores issues relating to the artistic use of other artists' styles and images. Contemporary artists use adopted well-known images and styles to comment on authorship and culture. View artwork appropriated from artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Vermeer, and Andy Warhol. Learn more and view images of artwork in this presentation in the Special Exhibition Resource Guide for Teachers.
New York, New York
Celebrate the allure of New York through this presentation of a wide selection of works, ranging from prints and photographs that record the transformation of New York experienced during the 1930s to images that capture common experiences of the city's inhabitants.
Custom presentations are also available. Please call 631.351.3214 for more information.
