This exhibition features prints from the Heckscher Museum of Art’s permanent collection.  Our previous print installation presented Old Master and nineteenth century prints from the collection, and so the emphasis here is on twentieth-century prints with an eye towards selecting a representative sampling of our best works.  Our holdings are particularly strong in two areas:  Abstraction and Photo Realism.  Works by Mary Bauermeister, Ilya Bolotowsky, Bruno Caruso, Ralston Crawford, Stuart Davis, Risaburo Kimura, Robert Rauschenberg, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and Jack Youngerman present many of the varied approaches to abstraction, while prints by Robert Cottingham, Don Eddy, Audrey Flack, Franz Gertsch, Ralph Goings, John Salt, and Ben Schonzeit suggest the range of subjects explored by the Photo Realists.  Prints exhibited at the landmark Documenta 5 exhibition, held in Kassel, Germany in 1972, which heralded the advent of Photo Realism on an international stage are among those included.  Seventeen prints, most of them large-scale works in lithography and serigraphy (silkscreen), are presented.
