Volunteers

Volunteers are the lifeblood of any not-for-profit organization and The Heckscher Museum of Art is no exception. Listed below are some of the diverse ways that you can assist the Museum as a volunteer. Because it is important for all our volunteers to be well-informed advocates and supporters of the Museum, we invite volunteers to also become  Museum members.

Special Events Outreach
Variable Hours

The Heckscher Museum of Art Development Office is seeking volunteers for community outreach. As a Special Events Outreach Volunteer, you would meet and speak with local merchants to obtain "raffle" items for some of our unique and exciting fundraising events held each year. In addition, with each new exhibition, you will be asked to place posters around town to inform the community of the upcoming Museum events.

Interns

The Heckscher Museum of Art has a variety of internship opportunities for both graduate and undergraduate students seeking practical experience in various aspects of museum studies. These are usually unpaid positions, unless otherwise indicated, and some may be available only seasonally. Depending upon the desired duration of the internship, it may be possible to combine several projects in order to obtain a broader experience. Internship appointments are awarded at the discretion of the Museum based on the qualification of the applicant and availability of appropriate staff supervision. Internships build your resume and demonstrate to employers your ability to commit and gain real-world knowledge of your field. To apply, complete the volunteer application and mail it to the Museum or email to development@heckscher.org.
