In 1920, the Museum's founder August Heckscher dedicated the museum and surrounding park to the community of Huntington, "especially the children." To this day, the Museum makes every effort to provide an experience that is both fun and educational for visitors of all ages.

Visitors are invited to create artwork at this activity station in the Central Gallery. Activities change with the exhibits and select artwork is featured on the Inspired by the Exhibitions: Visitor Artwork page and on social media.

Family Activity Guides
Look, read, and learn about artwork on view with HUEY, the Musuem's kid-friendly mascot! These family-friendly activity guides invite children to be a "Detail Detective," follow clues, and more!

Heckscher Family Hour
Children ages 5 through 10 are invited for a family-friendly tour of a current exhibition.

Huntington Village Art Walk
Every Fall and Spring, the Museum is proud to participate in this collaboration with a number of local cultural arts institutions in the Village of Huntington. Enjoy free admission, hands-on activities for all ages, and refreshments. Explore the artwork on view and meet local artists in the galleries!

Seasonal Festival Activities
Every year, the Heckscher Museum of Art participates in the Long Island Fall Festival in October and Town of Huntington's Tulip Festival in May, providing free art activities for children on the Museum's terrace.
