Kids Drop-In Workshop: Mapping Belonging

Saturday, November 21, 2026
1 – 3 pm*

Join us for monthly family-friendly art experiences inspired by the exhibition Eclipse of the Sun Now from November 2026 through May 2027. Each month, discover a new work of art in the Museum and enjoy a hands-on art making experience!

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, enjoy a hands-on afternoon inspired by contemporary Shinnecock artist Courtney M. Leonard and her work CONTACT 2,023…. Explore how thousands of small, shell-like forms come together to create a map of Long Island in this mixed media work of art. Then reflect on your own connections to place. Families will shape clay “shells,” choose colors that hold personal meaning, and contribute to a community map of belonging.

This program has been developed in collaboration with artist and professor Wan Ling Fahrer and the Adelphi University Art Education Department.
