The Mix

The Mix

The Mix is a bold new series of social gatherings, performances, workshops and more celebrating the creative work of artists across Long Island and surrounding communities. Designed to foster belonging, authentic exchange, and cultural visibility, this series is part of the Heckscher Museum’s deep commitment to inclusivity and community well-being.

With a focus on creative expression, identity, and fueling holistic health, The Mix creates vibrant, welcoming spaces for BIPOC, Latinx, LGBTQ+, and other underrepresented communities. The museum aims to expand its overall reach to people who may not traditionally see the museum as a space for them—reimagining it as a hub for art, culture, and connection.

The Mix: A Century & Beyond
Friday, July 11, 2025
6:30 – 8:30 pm

Step back in time and raise a glass to 105 years of art, love, and legacy at The Heckscher’s latest social event, The Mix! Celebrate the Museum’s milestone on Friday, July 11 with an Anniversary Paint-n-Sip inspired by our founders Anna & August as you create your own masterpiece. Guiding the evening is artist and creative wellness advocate Melosa Basquiat, a self-taught painter whose work is rooted in healing, storytelling, and community. Inspired by her late cousin, legendary Neo-expressionist Jean-Michel Basquiat, Melosa has turned art into a tool for transformation. Her sessions blend art, intention, and connection, making her the perfect host for this creative celebration.

Setting the live music vibes is rising jazz luminary Rahsaan Cruse Jr., whose soulful voice and rich, resonant timbre channel raw emotion into every ballad. With impeccable phrasing and a style that bridges classic jazz with a refreshing modern touch, Rahsaan’s performances are more than music—they’re transformative experiences that stir the soul and leave audiences spellbound.

Enjoy vintage-inspired cocktails, gourmet bites from Cousins Maine Lobster, and capture the memories in our nostalgic photo booth. Join us for a night where history, art, and creativity collide—toasting to the past while looking towards the future!

Registration recommended. Please note, the indoor portion of this event is 15+. Every ticket includes all art materials and a cocktail or mocktail inspired by the Museum’s history!
