Closing Reception & Poetry Reading: Salt Life: Arthur Dove and Helen Torr

Join us for a special closing reception featuring a Curator’s chat with Karli Wurzelbacher and a poetry reading with Jesse Curran. Enjoy this last chance to see the exhibition and learn more about the remarkable story of artists Arthur Dove and Helen Torr. Listen to a selection of poems by Jesse Curran directly inspired by Dove and Torr’s artwork and their intimate engagement with the North Shore of Long Island. Explore the generative ways art and poetry can create connections across time. Light refreshments will be served.  

 Karli Wurzelbacher, PhD., is Heckscher Museum Chief Curator. Jesse Curran, PhD., is a poet, essayist, scholar, and teacher who lives in Northport, NY. Her writing has appeared in dozens of literary journals including About Place, After the Art, Leaping Clear, Ruminate, Blueline, and Still Point Arts Quarterly.  She is a faculty member in the department of English at SUNY Old Westbury and is currently finishing a book of poetry and essays on Dove/Torr and their visual poetics of place.
