Join us for an inspiring evening at The Heckscher Museum in partnership with Planned Parenthood and Protégé Art Studio! Take a private guided tour and explore the art of self-expression through letter writing and collage-making, inspired by the exhibition Embracing the Parallax: Berenice Abbott and Elizabeth McCausland. Connect past and present LGBTQIA+ relationships through the lens of Abbott and McCausland’s partnership while connecting with your community in a creative and inclusive space.
Begin the evening with a curator-led tour of the exhibition with Jessica Rosen. The groundbreaking exhibition features twenty-two gelatin silver prints from the collection that span key points in the photographer Berenice Abbott’s career, and pair them with the writing of her lifelong romantic partner, art-critic Elizabeth McCausland.
Then, delve into a discussion about the current conversations regarding Lesbian and LGBTQ relationships with Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic. See where there are common threads through the past and the present discourse in the community.
Finally, join Robyn Cooper as she guides you through a hands-on workshop bringing your letters to life through collage. Using a variety of materials including, markers, pastels, paper, stickers and more, participants will create a mixed media work of art incorporating their words into a visual experience.
All levels welcome – no art or writing experience necessary! All materials provided. Light refreshments will be served.
