This portrait of a Spaniard painted by the French nineteenth-century artist Antoine Vollon (1833-1900) is an unusual example of a figural work by a painter known exclusively for still life subjects. Current Museum Members and Donors are invited to join us on Zoom as Dr. Tabler discusses what she has discovered about this painting and how it relates to one of Vollon’s most important works in the Musée d’Orsay, Paris. Her research on this artist for the catalogue of The Heckscher Museum’s collection developed into her PhD dissertation at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
