MEMBERS VIRTUAL LOUNGE
with Meredith Brown, Ph.D., Consulting Curator of Contemporary Art

The Members Virtual Lounge Series invites current Museum Members and Donors to join convivial conversations and educational talks with leading art experts. During this Virtual Lounge, Dr. Brown will discuss the work of a handful of contemporary artists featured in The Rains are Changing Fast: New Acquisitions in Context. These highlighted artists create remarkable artwork that addresses important issues of our time in visionary ways. A themed mocktail recipe (“The Contemporary Collector Cherry Cooler”) will be emailed upon registration, allowing participants to enjoy the lounge experience from their own home.

Please note: You must be a current Member or Donor to register for this event. Advance registration is required. The Zoom link and password for this free virtual event will be provided upon registration.

HUNTINGTON PUBLIC ART CRAWL

The Heckscher is happy to participate in this Huntington-wide event. Enjoy the exhibitions and docents in the galleries throughout the day. From 1 to 3 pm, join New York based visual artist Edward Acosta for a painting demonstration. Passionate about bold design, Acosta merges an array of techniques including Pop Art, Street Art, Graffiti, and Abstract Expressionism in his work.

PRIDE CELEBRATION
in coordination with the Long Island Pride Parade

12 – 5 pm

Celebrate Pride and the LGBTQ+ community during this special day at the Museum! The Long Island Pride Parade will end in Heckscher Park, just outside the Museum. Then get inspired by the work of Latinx mixed-media artist Melissa Misla and share your artwork in a special queer safe place in the Museum. Visitors of all ages are invited to create their own artwork expressing their individuality, creating a unique community installation for everyone to enjoy! Pride coloring books, flags, pins, and stickers will be available free all day.

JUNETEENTH FREEDOM DAY

The Heckscher Museum is happy to be part of this community event held in Manor Field Park in Huntington Station! Join Huntington-based multi-disciplinary artist and activist Maïa Gomis as she leads the creation of the Heckscher Museum of Art Unity Banner. Maïa is a young, queer, black artist that celebrates her intersectionalities through her art. Hailing from a Haitian and Senegalés household, she has been inspired to express her experiences using bright colors, movement, and many different textures and patterns. Maïa is also an activist for human rights and hopes to change the world someday. Her art is a reflection of her journey and is the legacy she wishes to leave behind! 

All are invited to contribute to this community work of art that will celebrate African American culture, history, and achievements, while also acknowledging the ongoing necessity to remain resilient in the ongoing fight against systemic racism and injustice. Come celebrate Freedom. Come celebrate Juneteenth. Come home to Huntington where history is not forgotten, it’s celebrated! The day will include: historical reflections, music, dancing, food trucks, giveaways, raffles, cultural experiences and much, much more throughout the day. Bring lawn chairs!
