The Heckscher Museum’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration on November 1, welcomed nearly 400 visitors who enjoyed festive music, creative art projects and community. It was the largest attendance to date at the special event. Families decorated a colorful altar
where they left thoughtful messages and artwork to remember loved ones.
Guests learned about the holiday and how it is celebrated around the world. Artists Kelynn Z. Alder, Manuel Alejandro Macarrulla, and Erwin List Sanchez guided visitors in creating works of art inspired by the celebration. Activities included Mexican style calaveras, maraca decorating, maskmaking, flower crown making, and more.
Live Mexican music was performed by Alejandro Gonzalez. Complimentary churros, pan de muertos, and hot chocolate was donated by The Oaxaca Restaurant,
The day happened in collaboration with the Town of Huntington Hispanic Advisory Task Force, Latina Moms Connect, Inc., The Oaxaca Restaurant, The Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, Mac Bounce Party Rentals, and the Town of Huntington Institute of Human Services.
Thank you to everyone who made this an extra special day!
