The idiom—Night on the Town—suggests rich experiences beyond a simple night out. This exhibition focuses on images of nightlife scenes including dining, dancing, music, theater and entertainment. An evening out, whether in Huntington, a major city such as Manhattan, or a rural Pennsylvania town, consists of myriad social interactions in addition to dining and entertainment. Cafés, sidewalks and the streetscape become places to see and be seen, as revealed in paintings, works on paper and photographs by Arthur Dove, Larry Fink, George Luks, Man Ray, Larry Rivers and John Sloan, among others. This exhibition is on view during Long Island Restaurant week and Dine Huntington—the Town of Huntington’s restaurant week.
