H@H Kids Edition: Art Activity Series

LEARN & CREATE!

Part of the Museum’s “Heckscher at Home” initiatives, this virtual art activities series for kids is an online resource for children and families learning and creating from home.

H@H Kids Edition activities are inspired by artwork in the Museum’s collection and exhibitions, children’s books, and nature. For each project, an instructional video features a professional Museum Educator and is accompanied by a materials lists, key terms, and discussion questions – all designed to build visual literacy and make learning at home fun and exciting!

Project Overview
Join us for Heckscher @ Home Kids Edition and learn about the artwork of Louise Nevelson as we celebrate Earth Day! Educator Alyssa Matthews will guide you as you explore Nevelson’s found object assemblages and get inspired to create your own unique relief sculpture using recycled materials.

In celebration of Juneteenth, join us for a special Heckscher @ Home Kids Edition!  Learn about African American artist Robert Carter and join educator Lisa Sayedi as she explores his artwork, Mama Taught Me Piano and Much More. Carter’s painting is a beautiful new 2021 Museum acquisition that will be on view in The Heckscher Museum Celebrates 100 exhibition this fall! Summer Break! Tin Foil Marker Printmaking (Episode 19, 8/16/20)

Project Overview

Have you ever tried printmaking? It is one of the oldest forms of art-making. There are many ways to create prints. Traditionally, an artist can make multiple copies of an image when printing with a printing plate, which can be printed over and over again. In this video, we will be making monoprints, a type of print where you can only make one copy of your print, so each one is one-of-a-kind! Let’s discover how to use simple materials to create our own monoprints right at home.

We will be using an everyday household item to create art – tin foil! We will be learning about the abstract sculpture Space Loom XXIII by Ibram Lassaw in our collection and then getting inspired to create our own three-dimensional masterpieces!
